S¨ärskilda undervisningsgrupper i grundskolans högstadium
Alla elever i svensk skola har enligt skollagen rätt till undervisning anpassad till deras förutsättningar. En lösning är att inrätta särskildaundervisningsgrupper för elever i behov av särskilt stöd. Data från sju svenska kommuner visar på fem skilda sätt att organisera dessa grupper. Oavsett vald organisation uttrycker majoriteten av respondenterna att de är nöjda med den egna skolans lösning. Denna nöjdhet kan ha en konserverande effekt och hindra den i internationella överenskommelser framskrivna ambitionen om inkludering i skola och samhälle. Genom att ge röst åt skolledning, lärare och elever bidrar studien med mångas perspektiv på SU-grupper och ger därmed underlag för pedagogiska samtal och kollegialt lärande
Vardagsanknytning i biologiböcker
Artikeln behandlar hur anknytningar till elevers liv utanför skolan görs i svenska biologiböcker. Ett socialsemiotiskt perspektiv anläggs på texter och böckerna studeras som multimodala produkter. Anknytningen till livet utanför skolan sker genom olika modaliteter och det författaren främst studerat är hur direkt tilltal används. Resultatet, som bland annat presenteras genom en beskrivning av en fiktiv 15-årings livssituation, visar att eleverna förväntas ha besökt många biotoper vid olika årstider för att kunna känna igen sig i böckernas exempel. Avslutningsvis diskuterar författaren möjliga konsekvenser för elever, lärare och läromedelsförfattare
Targeted Data Augmentation for bias mitigation
The development of fair and ethical AI systems requires careful consideration
of bias mitigation, an area often overlooked or ignored. In this study, we
introduce a novel and efficient approach for addressing biases called Targeted
Data Augmentation (TDA), which leverages classical data augmentation techniques
to tackle the pressing issue of bias in data and models. Unlike the laborious
task of removing biases, our method proposes to insert biases instead,
resulting in improved performance. To identify biases, we annotated two diverse
datasets: a dataset of clinical skin lesions and a dataset of male and female
faces. These bias annotations are published for the first time in this study,
providing a valuable resource for future research. Through Counterfactual Bias
Insertion, we discovered that biases associated with the frame, ruler, and
glasses had a significant impact on models. By randomly introducing biases
during training, we mitigated these biases and achieved a substantial decrease
in bias measures, ranging from two-fold to more than 50-fold, while maintaining
a negligible increase in the error rate

Treatment with a New Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor Gamma Agonist, Pyridinecarboxylic Acid Derivative, Increases Angiogenesis and Reduces Inflammatory Mediators in the Heart of Trypanosoma cruzi-Infected Mice
Trypanosoma cruzi infection induces an intense inflammatory response in diverse host tissues. The immune response and the microvascular abnormalities associated with infection are crucial aspects in the generation of heart damage in Chagas disease. Upon parasite uptake, macrophages, which are involved in the clearance of infection, increase inflammatory mediators, leading to parasite killing. The exacerbation of the inflammatory response may lead to tissue damage. Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) is a ligand-dependent nuclear transcription factor that exerts important antiinflammatory effects and is involved in improving endothelial functions and proangiogenic capacities. In this study, we evaluated the intermolecular interaction between PPARγ anda new synthetic PPARγ ligand, HP24, using virtual docking. Also, we showed that early treatment with HP24, decreases the expression of NOS2, a pro-inflammatory mediator, and stimulates proangiogenic mediators (vascular endothelial growth factor A, CD31, and Arginase I) both in macrophages and in the heart of T. cruzi-infected mice. Moreover, HP24 reduces the inflammatory response, cardiac fbrosis and the levels of inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, interleukin 6) released by macrophages of T. cruzi-infected mice. We consider that PPARγ agonists might be useful as coadjuvants of the antiparasitic treatment of Chagas disease, to delay, reverse, or preclude the onset of heart damage.Fil: Penas, Federico Nicolás. Pensando nisso e preocupadas em oferecer ferramentas para o educador é que temos desenvolvido oficinas com dinâmicas, pois elas favorecem o filosofar, possibilitam ao profissional da educação infantil um espaço para ressignificar sua atuação e sua prática diante da reflexão e de vivências que o levem a experimentar o saber de si enquanto sujeito aberto ao diálogo e a novas aprendizagens
Waste detection in Pomerania: non-profit project for detecting waste in environment
Waste pollution is one of the most significant environmental issues in the
modern world. The importance of recycling is well known, either for economic or
ecological reasons, and the industry demands high efficiency. Our team
conducted comprehensive research on Artificial Intelligence usage in waste
detection and classification to fight the world's waste pollution problem. As a
result an open-source framework that enables the detection and classification
of litter was developed. The final pipeline consists of two neural networks:
one that detects litter and a second responsible for litter classification.
Waste is classified into seven categories: bio, glass, metal and plastic,
non-recyclable, other, paper and unknown. Our approach achieves up to 70% of
average precision in waste detection and around 75% of classification accuracy
